Point Loma High School

Although Point Loma High School recently celebrated its 80th anniversary, it is committed to 21st-century learning. Highlights include school-wide broadband access, several computer labs, APEX credit recovery classes, and iHigh online learning labs. All teachers have document cameras and presentation stations, develop common assessments in their professional learning communities, use Data Director to analyze student work, and place students into a unique PLC-based advisory period as needed for additional subject-specific intervention. The library is transitioning to an iLibrary that will feature notebook computers and iBook players. Teachers use a multitude of technologies to communicate with students, including ConnectEd, email, Zangle, websites, class blogs and Twitter. Classes in video production, graphic design and audio recording/production integrate technology. A 21st century grant is equipping all math classrooms with Promethean whiteboards, surround sound and 1:1 student laptops.

School of Digital Media and Design, Kearny High Educational Complex

The Kearny High Educational Complex is a 65-year-old facility that originally hosted a comprehensive high school, but now serves four autonomous small schools. The School of Digital Media and Design (DMD) is a project-based, interdisciplinary learning environment that uses media as an avenue for students to effectively communicate their thoughts, ideas and conclusions about global issues. Teachers on each grade-level team share a 90-minute common prep each day to review student work and use common assessment data to drive instruction. DMD hosts a diverse student population; 68% lives below the poverty line. Academic highlights include 95% of students attending college last year, a 126-point API gain over the last five years, and selection as a California Distinguished School. There are three Mac media labs, one mixed lab of Macs and PCs, laptop carts and an iPod Touch cart. Math teachers have Promethean whiteboards and all teachers have laptops, projectors and document cameras.

Innovation Middle School

The educational focus of Innovation Middle School (iMiddle) is Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Students participate in a rigorous curriculum embedded in 21st-century technology skills. Authentic, challenging, standards-aligned project-based learning experiences require students to apply technology as they solve practical, real-world problems. With projects that include podcasts, the iPod Touch, WebQuests, videoconferencing, video production, laptops, online tools, Google Docs, digital content and more, iMiddle students learn by actively participating in the learning process. Other highlights include a two-year algebra program; HP, Microsoft and Apple partnerships; National Board Certified and Google-trained teachers; interactive digital classroom environments; and pre-engineering Gateway to Technology classes.

Johnson Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Magnet

Elementary students at Johnson are immersed in technology as part of the STEM curriculum, which provides a rigorous approach to reading, writing and speaking so children can evolve into productive citizens in a global society. All students attend the Science, Engineering and Project Resource labs weekly. These labs utilize a rich, inquiry-oriented learning environment that empowers all students to become literate in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Johnson is a recent NASA Explorer School, and Johnson teachers integrate real-world lessons using the NASA curriculum. Students in grades 4�6 participate in before- and after-school clubs and ongoing contests sponsored by NASA. Speaker systems, updated document cameras, AlphaSmarts, Promethean whiteboards and classroom netbook sets are well represented.

Washington Elementary School

As a school of choice, Washington serves many students who are driven in by parents who work downtown. A centerpiece of the school is its SMART classroom pilot program that will eventually expand school-wide. Two classrooms, one Kindergarten and one third-grade, are outfitted with modular furniture for students and the teacher to allow quick reconfigurations for small group work, Socratic seminars or other instructional uses. Netbooks are featured at a 2:1 or 1:1 ratio. Macs are also available for publishing and graphics work, and each classroom has two SMARTBoards: a large one for whole-class presentations and a small one for small group use. During the tour, three additional classrooms with netbooks, Promethean whiteboards and Inspiration software will model lessons for visitors. A library technology center staffed by a computer instructor provides 50 minutes of technology literacy training per week for every student, preK-5.

Millennial Tech Middle School

Millennial Tech Middle School is a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) magnet school fostering a 21 st-century digital education through the use of the Moodle online learning platform, interactive boards, document cameras, surround sound, and wireless technology in all classrooms. Academic achievement is supported by 81-minute instructional periods designed to integrate project-based learning across the curriculum. Students have access to two PC-based engineering labs, the iPod Touch in sixth-grade math class, and technology-based programs such as First in Math, MIND Mathematics, CAD design software, Final Cut Pro, Reading Counts, Grammar 101, Carnegie Mathematics, and Pearson Math Success Net. Next semester, a 1:1 computer initiative will ensure all students have a 3G laptop to take home, extending the borders of our classrooms.

Since we do not require pre-payment on purchase orders, ALL registrations submitted with purchase orders are subject to the cancellation policy. There is no refund for no-shows.
