Castaic Middle School: Community Profile

Located at the north end of the Santa Clarita Valley, Castaic is one of California’s fastest growing communities.  In the last two decades, the community has been transformed from an agriculturally based “wayside” whose only industry was a brick factory to a major suburban city.  At the beginning of 2003, Castaic had an estimated population of 17,457 in about 4500 households.

Commercial development is happening rapidly in Castaic.  Once open-range land is becoming home to major corporations in the electronics, banking, and health care industries.  One large commercial project that was completed in 2002 brought 20,000 new jobs to the area.  Median family income in the Santa Clarita Valley area is now about $57,000.

The world known Magic Mountain amusement park is located in nearby Valencia.
