Silverado Middle School Principal: Kevin Kurtz

Kevin Kurtz graduated from California State University , Chico in 1985 with a bachelor's degree in liberal studies and a multiple subject teaching credential. He began his career in education teaching in the Apple Valley Unified School District located in Southern California . During this time, he received his master's degree in educational management and leadership and his preliminary administrative services credential through California State University , San Bernardino .

In 1992, Mr. Kurtz became an assistant principal for the Lemoore Union School District in Lemoore , California . During this time, he received his clear Administrative Services credential through Fresno Pacific University .

In 1994, Mr. Kurtz joined the Dry Creek Joint Elementary School District as the assistant principal of Heritage Oak Elementary. From 1996 until June of 2005, he served as principal of Antelope Meadows Elementary. He became principal of Silverado Middle School in the summer of 2005.

Throughout his career in education, Mr. Kurtz has worked to create collaborative learning environments that involve parents and staff in supporting student learning. Developing strong communication links and utilizing quality criteria to evaluate and improve curriculum instruction is the foundation of his leadership style. He has also served on the board of the California Association of Year Round Schools and presented at various conferences on school organization, developing multi-track YRE calendars, and the development of learning centers for special education and at-risk students.
