Alvarado Intermediate School: Students

Alvarado’s demographics have changed dramatically over the past several years from a relatively homogeneous student population to an extremely diverse one. Socioeconomic levels range from the lowest of incomes (460 students are on “free or reduced-price lunch”) and education level to the very wealthy and highly educated. With over 15 different ethnicities and 26 languages represented, Alvarado has responded to the challenge. Alvarado provides a variety of programs to give all students opportunities for success and places value on diversity as a premium for school harmony.

Alvarado holds close the District Core Value of a “Student-Centered Focus” as vital to the overall success of the school. Therefore, students have a voice and the chance to be heard through several forums. By maintaining an open-door policy, the staff and administration promote student involvement, provide for equal access, and accommodate students seeking immediate attention. Alvarado’s active student council builds school spirit and actively represents the students’ voice in partnership with the administration. Our Parent Teacher Student Association, School Site Council, and District Advisory Councils all have student representatives and are vehicles for important input and dialogue. The administration and staff at Alvarado understand that a student-centered focus encourages student involvement, provides for equal learning, and upholds a strong academic foundation.
