Bernice Ayer Middle School : Community Profile

Located in South Orange County , San Clemente is a premier beach resort with a small-town feeling. Beautiful beaches and 342 days of sunshine a year are only part of the appeal that makes people want to call San Clemente home. In 1925 the city was founded by Ole Hanson who wrote, “I envision a place where people can live together more pleasantly than in any other place in America .” The student population at Bernice Ayer Middle School reflects the city's diversity, with a growing Latino community and new housing developments in the inland canyons.

Bernice Ayer Middle School has developed strong ties to the City of San Clemente . A portion of the BAMS campus is a joint-use park facility that is used by physical education classes during school hours and a variety of city and community sports groups, as well as the public, outside of school hours. BAMS students participate in before and after school classes and sports programs provided by the city Parks and Recreation Department. Many local businesses and service clubs support the school with volunteer services, recognition opportunities for students, and financial resources.

The Capistrano Unified School District serves over 50,000 students in 55 schools. Bernice Ayer Middle School is one of 10 middle schools. The district's commitment to continuous improvement galvanizes the teaching and support efforts of more than 4,900 full- and part-time employees. Capistrano Unified has garnered a strong reputation for academic excellence. Founded in 1965, the district encompasses 195 square miles in seven cities and a portion of the unincorporated area of Orange County . With 55 campuses, it is the largest employer in south Orange County.
