J.F. Kennedy Middle School : Community Profile

J. F. Kennedy Middle School is located in El Centro , California , a community of 34,000 located approximately 10 miles north of the Mexico/U.S. border. We can count on our city's help when we ask. During our Schools to Watch celebration, an abundance of business donations created an environment of pride and respect. Our local newspaper and television reporters continue to provide coverage of our many successes.

J. F. Kennedy Middle School serves a diverse population of 100% low-socio economic status, 73% ELL population, 23% migrant, and 14% students with special needs.

Parents are an integral part of our school success, and we benefit from their active and rigorous participation in such activities as the school site council, parent walk-arounds, the gear-up grant committee, and a site leadership committee. To date, 119 parents have completed our nine-week Parent Institute Training, 48 have completed English Language Development training, and 238 have completed “How to Help Your Child Succeed with School” training.

Coordination of community, parent, student and staff efforts has been a key factor in the success of Kennedy Middle School .
