Toby Johnson Middle School Principal: Patrick McDougall

Patrick McDougall has been a middle school administrator for the past 17 years. He served for three years as the vice principal of Lee Junior High School in Woodland, California, before being named as the principal of Douglass Junior High School, also located in Woodland. Mr. McDougall served as principal at Douglass for seven years. During his tenure in Woodland , he helped his staff apply for and receive four different middle school demonstration grants, as well as the lucrative SB1274 restructuring grant. In 1999, Mr. McDougall was named as the California League of Middle School's Region 3 “Educator of the Year.”

In 2000, Mr. McDougall was hired by the Elk Grove Unified School District to develop a “state of the art” middle grade program for Toby Johnson Middle School , a new site that was going to be located on the same campus as Franklin High School . The facility would also include the 20,000-square foot Franklin Community Library, the largest K-12 library in the State of California . After a two-year planning process, Toby Johnson Middle School, Franklin High School, and the Franklin Community Library opened their doors to serve over 4,000 students in grades 7-12. For the past six years, Mr. McDougall has served as the principal of Toby Johnson Middle School , which has a student population of 1,475 seventh- and eighth-grade students.

Mr. McDougall received his BA in English and Psychology from Biola University in La Mirada , California , and his MA in School Administration from California State University , Sacramento . Prior to entering the field of school administration, he taught both middle school and high school English/Language Arts in public, private and international settings.
