Frank Wright Middle School: Community

Frank Wright Middle School is located in Imperial, California . Imperial is a small rural community in the desert just north of the US/Mexico border. The school is approximately 120 miles east of San Diego and 60 miles west of Yuma , Arizona . The population has grown in recent years to nearly 11,000, with agriculture and law enforcement being the two major industries in the area. Our growth, spurred by the anomaly of affordable housing in Southern California, has earned Imperial the title of the fifth fastest-growing California city for 2006.

Frank Wright Middle School is part of Imperial Unified School District , which has a student population of approximately 3,300 students. In addition to Frank Wright, the district has one traditional high school, one continuation high school, and three elementary schools. The community is very involved with the schools and provides a great deal of support in a variety of ways, including volunteer time, active participation in committees of governance, involvement in student leadership activities, and general fund raising.

Frank Wright has an ongoing partnership with a variety of local businesses, and has partnered with the City of Imperial to build a gymnasium and provide a variety of extra curricular activities in the arts and athletics for the benefit of youth in the community.

Frank Wright has a very active PTO and School Site Council. These groups feature highly involved parents who provide a variety of services including luncheons of appreciation, chaperones for dances and other activities, and support of athletics and other after school activities.
